UTSA adds Chris Carpenter to signing class
SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head football coach Jeff Traylor on Monday announced the addition of Jacksonville, Texas, native Chris Carpenter, a transfer wide receiver from Colorado, to the program’s signing class.

Carpenter will join 14 other student-athletes — Tyrone Brown, Zach Causey, Chace Davis, Tye Edwards, Payne He’Bert, Deandre Marshall, Owen Pewee, Jamar Richardson, Ben Rios, Jared Sackett, Diego Tello, Brandon Tennison, Houston Thomas and Jace Wilson — who inked with the Roadrunners earlier this month.

The class now features a near-even split of eight transfers and seven who are coming from the high school ranks. Of the transfers, five are moving to San Antonio from an FBS program — including four from Power 5 teams — while the other three last played at a junior college.

Of the 15 signees, 11 hail from the state of Texas with three from East Texas and two apiece from San Antonio, Central Texas, the Greater Houston Area and the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The out-of-state signees are from Alabama, California, Florida and Mississippi.

Nine members of the class are offensive players, five are pegged for the defensive side of the ball and one is a specialist.

Parting ways with the receiver from Duncanville earlier in the cycle makes a lot of sense now. Carpenter may not be quite as fast but he's a much better receiver and has seen playing time at a Pac 12 school.
