Incarnate Word (4-4) - Southland Conference

The Cardinals just wrapped up the Irish Alamo Invitational where they went 2-2 beating Villanova and Northwestern and losing to Notre Dame twice. If you look at their wins the 4-4 start is a bit deceiving. They lost their opening series vs Northwestern who is a decent team. They beat Prairie View A&M who is 2-5 with wins only against Our Lady of the Lake (DII, DIII?) Both Northwestern and Villanova have a combined record of 2-12.

Last year, Incarnate Word finished 18-32 (12th place out of 13) in the Southland. The Cardinal team is definitely improving though since making the jump from D2 to D1. This 2015 team has 6 JUCO transfers that all appear to be leading the charge offensively. Matt Morris (JR-Transfer) leads the team with a .429 Avg, 12 H, 6 RBIs, 2 HR, 7 BB and Ethan McGill (SR-Transfer) coming in at .345 Avg, 10 H, 3 RBIs, 3 Runs

It appears that Coach Marshall is going to start Aaron Burns (1-1, 4.91 ERA, 3.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB) If you recall, Burns started vs Texas and was quickly pulled earning the loss. He pitched in the Bryant series on Saturday in relief where he shined and earned the win. Incarnate Word will likely counter with Churchill freshmen John Schull (4.91 ERA, 7 H, 4 ER, 5 K, 2 BB)

This is a must win game for UTSA. I say that because UTSA has struggled mightily vs Tuesday opponents. It's difficult to roll up to Austin and earn a win, but playing a struggling Southland team at home should result in a victory. Of course this is baseball and anything can happen but a loss here would really hurt UTSA's RPI.
