SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s basketball team will play 18 home games as part of its 2022-23 schedule, it was announced by head coach Steve Henson on Tuesday.

UTSA’s 18-game home schedule will feature 10 games against Conference USA foes as well as eight non-conference opponents. Not included in the 18-game home schedule is an exhibition against Schreiner on Nov. 2nd.

The entire 2022-23 slate consists of 31 games, featuring eleven non-conference games. UTSA is set to host eight non-con games and its road trips include ventures to Corpus Christi, Albuquerque and Salt Lake City. UTSA will host the 210 San Antonio Shootout, its own Multi-Team Event, again this year as a part of its non-conference schedule.

This season, the Roadrunners have 20 Conference USA games in the regular season. UTSA will play a round-robin schedule in conference which will allow it to face every team twice, both home and away.

“The early portion of our schedule gives us the opportunity to play a bunch of games against local schools,” Henson said. “Our fans will be able to enjoy those games and the opposing teams will be able to bring their own supporters to the Convo. To again host a multi-team event this year is very beneficial. The MTE helps us miss fewer classes and reduces our travel, especially around the Thanksgiving holiday. Our road games at New Mexico and Utah will be good challenges for us. Both schools are proud basketball programs with great traditions. Utah’s fans are terrific, and the Pit in Albuquerque is one of the elite college hoops environments. As for Conference USA, it’s loaded this year. Playing everyone twice will be awesome as I feel it’s the best format to determine a season champion.”

The Roadrunners will open their 2022-23 regular season with a Nov. 7 matchup against cross-town school Trinity at the Convocation Center.

UTSA will then hit the road for its first of three non-conference away games as they head to Corpus Christi for a showdown with the TAMUCC Islanders on the eleventh of November. The Roadrunners will then follow up their first road trip with six straight home contests.

The first of the six opponents is Saint Mary’s on Nov. 14, which is followed by fellow I-35 school Texas State on Nov. 17. The Prairie View A&M Black Panthers make their way to San Antonio on Nov. 22 for a Tuesday contest before UTSA hosts its MTE later that week.

The 210 San Antonio Shootout, UTSA’s multi-team event, will start on Friday, Nov. 25 and will conclude on Monday, Nov. 28. The MTE will feature Dartmouth, Grambling State and UIW along with the Roadrunners.

Following UTSA’s Thanksgiving MTE, the Roadrunners will be back in action on Dec. 10 when they travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to face off with the New Mexico Lobos at the Pit in the first part of a two-game road trip. The second part of the two-game trip is a matchup against Utah on Dec. 13 in Salt Lake City.

The Roadrunners then return home and wrap up their non-conference schedule with a Dec. 18 contest against Bethune-Cookman.

UTSA gets its conference action underway on Dec. 22, when 2022 First-Team All-Conference USA member Tyler Perry and North Texas make their way to the Convocation Center. Following the North Texas tilt, the Roadrunners embark on a two-game road trip with games at Louisiana Tech and at the Conference USA NCAA tournament representative, UAB.

UTSA’s two-game road trip will be followed up with a two-game homestand with Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky visiting the Alamo City. The Roadrunners will then have another two-game road trip as they head off to play UTEP and Charlotte.

After returning from the Queen City, the Roadrunners will have their longest home stint of the conference slate as they host three straight. First to visit is Rice who will trek to San Antonio for a Jan. 16 contest. Following Rice are the two C-USA Florida schools, Florida Atlantic on Jan. 19 and FIU on Jan. 21.

The Roadrunners round out their January slate of games with a trip to Denton to face North Texas on Jan. 26 and then a home bout with La Tech on Jan. 28.

The February portion of the schedule begins with another two-game road trip for the Roadrunners. This time UTSA will head to Bowling Green for a WKU matchup on Feb. 2, followed by a trip to Murfreesboro and a date with Middle Tennessee.

In its last six games, UTSA will have three home and three away contests. The Roadrunners will host UTEP (2/11), UAB (2/18) and Charlotte (3/2) and will travel to Rice (2/16), Florida Atlantic (2/23) and FIU (2/25).

Following its last conference game against Charlotte on March second, UTSA will gear up for the Conference USA Championships which will be held March 8-11 in Frisco, Texas.

The Roadrunners return several standouts from last year’s squad, including their leading scorer, senior center Jacob Germany. Joining Germany back in a UTSA uniform is Isaiah Addo-Ankrah who last year emerged as a real wing threat for the Roadrunners, averaging 5.6 points per game. Fellow starters Erik Czumbel and Lachlan Bofinger are also back in the fold for the 2022-23 campaign.
