The UTSA coaching staff landed in the Metroplex Tuesday morning on the recruiting trail, hoping to offer a few of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area's top-tier talent. Well they didn't waste any time doing it, offering one of the Lone Star State's top TAPPS products.
Newly acquired defensive line coach from Oklahoma State Eric Henderson headed to the TAPPS 5A Division I state runner up and 2014 state champion Dallas Bishop Dunne to see one prospect UTSA's new staff knew could make an immediate impact for the Roadrunners in 2016.
The 6-foot-3 inch, 185 pound wide receiver Geraud Sanders received an offer from coach Henderson after visiting him at school Thursday afternoon.
Sanders announced his offer via Twitter:
Sanders has numerous offers from other schools, such as: the Air Force Academy, Louisiana Tech, Northern Colorado, University of Louisiana-Monroe, Northwestern, Army, Navy, Rice, Southern University and Miami, OH.
I caught up with Sanders following his offer asking him a few questions regarding his offer.
Isbell: With National Signing Day only six days away, where are you leaning?
Sanders: "I'm not leaning toward any [school] right now. I'm going to visit [UTSA] and look at all my options to see where I stand."
Isbell: What is your opinion on UTSA's new head coach Frank Wilson, formerly the running backs coach at LSU?
Sanders: "It means he [Coach Wilson] can make me into an SEC-type player, and that I'll receive the best coaching."
Isbell: Do you think if you were to commit to UTSA that you could come into the program and make an immediate impact on the field?
Sanders: "Yes, I can come in and make an impact early and contribute. I like the coaching staff [Coach Wilson] has put together. It's a great place to play and I'd get a great education."
Sanders is a three-sport athlete in football, basketball and track. If Sanders decides on UTSA his size, ability to keep his speed on his crisp routes, and ballhawk nature would be a huge get for Coach Wilson's staff.
