SAN ANTONIO — UTSA and Houston jointly announced Monday that they have agreed to play a four-game football series in 2017 and 2022-24.
The Roadrunners will host the Cougars on Sept. 2, 2017, at the Alamodome in what will be the third-all-time meeting between the two schools. The previously-scheduled 2017 opener against Southern now has been moved to Sept. 16 in San Antonio. UTSA also will play on the road at Baylor (Sept. 9) and Texas State (Sept. 23) in non-conference next year.
After a four-year break, UTSA and Houston will face off again on Sept. 3, 2022, at TDECU Stadium in Houston, on Sept. 2, 2023, in San Antonio and on Aug. 31, 2024, back in Houston.
In their last matchup, the Roadrunners spoiled the Cougars’ TDECU Stadium opener with a 27-7 victory on Aug. 29, 2014.
Houston won the inaugural meeting, 59-28, on Sept. 28, 2013, at the Alamodome.
UTSA will kick off the 2016 season, its first under new head coach Frank Wilson, on Sept. 3 when it hosts Alabama State at the Alamodome.
