Team Notes

The UTSA soccer team concluded their non-conference slate of action this week on Sunday, as the Drury Hotels Invitational ended with a Roadrunner and Huskie tie, 1-1. The tie brought the UTSA non-conference record to 5-2-1. The match was the second of the Invite for the Roadrunners, as they defeated the Lamar Cardinals 2-1 in their first game of the tournament.

In the first game of the Invitational, UTSA met Lamar. UTSA had two-goal contributors in the match. The game started with a bang as Kiran Singh scored in the second minute of the match. It began with an Alissa Stewart cross to Ellis Patterson who left it for Singh who scored with a sliding finish. UTSA got the game-winner from Stewart in the 81st minute. It was another two-person assist, as Halee Griffin crossed it to Marlee Fray. Fray then passed it between the legs of a Cardinal defender to Stewart who finished near post. The Roadrunners went on to win the game with a final score of 2-1.

The Roadrunners then met the HBU Huskies on Sunday to wrap up the tournament. The Roadrunners found themselves in an early 0-1 hole, as the Huskies scored in the 16th minute. Following the early Huskie goal, the Roadrunners ramped up the defense and the pressure, as they began working their way back. UTSA’s constant pressure paid off in the 61st minute when Jordan Walker won a header off a goal kick and bounced it to Marlee Fray. Fray then found senior, and Austin native, Ellis Patterson who buried a right-footed strike into the upper-right corner of the net. The two teams found themselves tied at the end of regulation, and two overtimes and 20 minutes later, the match ended in a tie. UTSA held a 29-6 shot advantage in the match ad also held a 10-4 corner kick lead.

With the non-conference portion of the season in the rear-view mirror, the Roadrunners will shift their focus to the conference opener, as they host the Old Dominion Monarchs on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Park West Athletics Complex and will be streamed on CUSA TV.
