What to watch for in UTSA Spring Game

Competition. It's that simple. First-year coach Frank Wilson wants to see his team compete. It is an inter-squad scrimmage, however Wilson expects his players to compete for starting spots, because at this point, not one player has a guaranteed spot on either side of the ball.

UTSA needs to show the Roadrunner faithful and its new coach what to expect out of this season. Yes, it is a spring game and it's all taken lightly, but it would be nice to see some of the enticing wide receiver-defensive back matchups.

Other than competition, the Roadrunners need to show some life on defense. UTSA's opponents scored an average of 33 points per game last season. The Roadrunners won't win many games if they can't keep their opponents from scoring close to five touchdowns per contest.

For most, it might sound crazy, but I'm hoping for a low-scoring affair where the offense puts some points on the board, but the defense really steps up. In the end, a better defense is what UTSA will need to compete in Conference USA.
