Spring football is easily the front runner for everyone right now but UTSA Baseball had a decent series vs #16 Rice over the weekend despite losing the series 2-1.

Both Brock Hartson and Aaron Burns struggled in games 1 and 2 but the amazing performance by freshman Chance Kirby was the real story for UTSA Baseball. Kirby, who was paired vs Rice's electric leffy Blake Fox on Sunday, was able to pitch a complete game and only allowed 7 hits and 1 earned run. More impressively, Kirby was able to strike out 9 batters and gave up 0 walks. That is CUSA player of the week stuff.

A few other notes:
-Tyler Straub (UTSA's leading batter) did not play this series
-Jesse Baker hit HR #11 and continues to dominate. Baker is now the leader in HRs (11), Doubles (13) and RBIs (35) on the Roadrunner's ball club.
-Freshman Ben Brookover connected on his first collegiate HR of the season

UTSA is now sitting at 23-17 (10-8 CUSA) Currently they are tied for 4th in the conference. Middle Tennessee sits at the top with a 14-4 conference record.

After a Tuesday contest vs Texas A&M Corpus Christi, UTSA will welcome Southern Miss to the Bird Bath for a weekend series. This is will be a critical series for the Roadrunners to win to keep up in the conference chase.
