SAN ANTONIO -- Conference USA has altered its scheduling model for men’s and women’s basketball in 2020-21 and will now feature contests typically played on back-to-back days in an effort to promote health and safety protocols for the Covid-19 impacted season.

The new model announced on Thursday will have teams play back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday, instead of Thursday and Saturday as originally decided. C-USA also implemented a requirement of at least 21 hours in between tipoffs to provide appropriate rest periods.

In addition to reducing the amount of travel, moving to this Friday-Saturday format will allow teams to play and efficiently complete their testing protocol each week.

The men’s basketball Roadrunners will now open conference play at Rice on Fri., Jan. 1 and will then face the Owls on Jan. 2. UTSA hosts home two-game matchups with North Texas (Jan. 8-9), Southern Miss (Jan. 22-23), Florida Atlantic (Feb. 12-13) and UAB (Feb. 26-27), and will travel to face Rice, Louisiana Tech (Jan. 15-16), FIU (Feb. 5-6) and Charlotte (Feb. 19-20). UTSA’s travel partner, UTEP, will face UTSA in San Antonio on Thursday, Jan. 28, before the Roadrunners venture to El Paso on Sat., Jan. 30.
