Redshirt freshman wide receiver Greg Campbell may have been the most electric player at the UTSA spring game. I spoke to him after the scrimmage for a Q&A.
Q: How good did that first half feel?
A: The quarterbacks were playing great and we just executed. It felt good to get out there and have some success.
Q: Walk me thought that long touchdown that opened up the scoring.
A: Coach called a play that I won't say is designed for me, but it was something that we had been working on in practice. I just executed, I made a play, made someone miss and we got six points.
Q: How much has Tony Jeffery being back helped you and the wide receiver group?
A: It has helped all of us. He was the guy that recruited me so there is familiarity there. He's very influential in everything we do because he is the guy that brought us in. For the young guys like me there is an adjustment because we haven't been coached by him, but it has been great.
Q: How tough was it to redshirt and watch from the bench?
A: It was very hard. Coming from high school where you play four years and never sit out, it was very hard. It was very humbling. I'm not the best player on the team anymore, but I'm just here to do whatever I can to help the team win.
Q: How much can the added speed on the edge help this team make plays down the field?
A: It is going to help us tremendously, especially in the new up-tempo offense. Last year we huddled, but this year we won't. That will help get the defense tired and in basic sets. We're going to make plays.
Q: How much has Blake Bogenschutz grown since you guys got on campus?
A: Blake has grown tremendously. He is a great quarterback, he is going to keep growing and he is going to lead our team.
