“After careful evaluation of our men’s basketball program, including candid and open discussions with Coach Henson on the team’s performance and his leadership, he will remain as head coach for the 2023-24 season. Coach recognizes that we have high expectations at UTSA for all of our athletic teams and that this year’s men’s basketball season did not meet those expectations. He is committed to substantive improvement, has already begun a complete evaluation of the program and will make the changes necessary to enable success next season.”

— Lisa Campos, UTSA Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics

His retention for one more year is not because he is doing a great job but rather because LC does not have any money to buy out his contract. There isn't any money in the coffers. So heading out to the AAC and with a team made up of players with a limited skill set, will certainly mean bottom feeders again. Henson did not sign one single player in the early signing period. What does that tell you of next years team?

Four players have entered the transfer portal so far, including freshman standout DJ Richards. DJ was really the brightest spot on the roster this year given his youth.

Two more entered the portal, Medor and Sabally. The only real loss is Richards. Everyone else is replaceable. Can Henson get players to come to Utsa realizing that it may be his last year? I honestly think that he will be hard pressed to win more than 10 games next year.

Germany was really the only big man they had that did anything. Do we know any names of coaches that may want to come here and do a rebuild? Sad to see more than half a team leave. Leaves a black eye on the program. Hanging our hats on baseball and football moving to AAC.
