SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head football coach Jeff Traylor on Friday announced that he has added Kennedy Lewis, a transfer wide receiver from Texas, to the program’s 2021 class, bringing the total number to 23 student-athletes.



Lewis, who will have four years of eligibility remaining, appeared in two games for the Longhorns in 2019, catching a 37-yard pass in a win over Rice. He was an all-state and three-time all-district selection at Melissa High School where he caught 106 passes for 2,149 yards and 26 touchdowns during his three-year varsity career.



Lewis recorded 47 receptions for 753 yards (16.0 avg.) and 10 touchdowns as a senior, helping the Cardinals to an 8-4 record and an appearance in the Class 4A D-I area playoffs. He was an honorable mention all-state performer as a junior after recording 48 catches for 1,099 yards (22.9 avg.) and 11 TDs to help Melissa to a 12-2 overall record, a district title and an appearance in the 4A D-I quarterfinals. He garnered second-team all-district accolades as a sophomore in 2016 after registering 11 receptions for 297 yards and five touchdowns.



Lewis joins a 2021 class that also includes Kevorian Barnes, Tre’Von Bradley Brandon Brown, Clifford Chattman, Nick Evans, Denzel Feaster, Ronnie Garza, River Gordon, Caden Holt, JaCorey Hyder, Malik Jones, Luke Lapeze, Caleb Lewis, De’Anthony Lewis, Eddie Lee Marburger, Noah Mitchell, Jalen Rainey, Robert Rigsby, Kamron Scott, Dre Spriggs, Ron Tatum III and Ronald Triplette.



The class now includes 13 high school players, four who are coming from the junior college ranks and six transfers.



A total of 18 of the new Roadrunners are from the state of Texas, including seven from the San Antonio area, four from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, three from Greater Houston, two apiece from East Texas and the Rio Grande Valley and one from Central Texas. Two players hail from Mississippi, while UTSA added one each from Louisiana, Massachusetts and Oklahoma.



Of the 23-member class, 20 are rated as 3-star prospects by at least one of the major recruiting services.
