FORT WORTH, Texas — UTSA quarterback Frank Harris has been named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2021, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced on Tuesday.
Harris is one of 40 FBS signal-callers, including one of three from Conference USA, selected to the class. This marks the second straight year the Schertz Clemens High School product has earned a spot on the list, and he now is eligible to be one of 16 semifinalists for the award.
Harris has completed 151 of 220 passes for 1,793 yards and 16 touchdowns, and he also has rushed for 270 yards and a pair of scores this season. He ranks 17th in the FBS in passing TDs and 19th in completion percentage (.692). He has thrown just three interceptions and his passing efficiency rating of 158.37 is in the top 25 in the country while helping the Roadrunners race out to an 8-0 overall record and 4-0 league mark this fall.
Also a member of the Manning Award watch list, Harris earned Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week and Manning Award Quarterback of the Week accolades after he led UTSA to a 52-46 road win over WKU on Oct. 9. He completed 28-38 passes for a career-best 349 yards and a school-record six passing touchdowns, as the Roadrunners racked up a season-high 564 yards of offense. Harris also caught a 23-yard touchdown pass, giving him seven total scores in the game, and rushed for 51 yards on nine carries, setting a UTSA single-game record for total offense with 400 yards.
For the second straight year, the Fan Vote will take place on the award’s three social media platforms — Instagram, Twitter and Facebook — and the top five vote getters on each will receive bonus committee member ballots which will be added to the votes cast by the National Selection Committee.
To participate in the Fan Vote, fans must like the original Davey O’Brien Award post highlighting the quarterback. Each round of the selection process (semifinalist, finalist and winner) will offer two one-week voting periods for fans. The 16 semifinalists will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 9, while the finalists will be tabbed on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The winner will be announced live on Thursday, Dec. 9, on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
